The questions that tell you whether a DJ will make your day - or just turn up and press play.
Choosing your wedding DJ is one of the biggest decisions for your day - they set the mood from the first drink to the last dance. After nearly 35 years DJing weddings across South Wales and the South West, these are the questions I'd ask if I were booking. 1. Are you available on our date - and will it be YOU on the night? Some companies send whoever is free. Make sure you know exactly who your DJ will be. 2. How do we plan the music together? A good DJ asks about you - your story, your must-plays and your do-not-plays. With PLM you get the free PLM Signature App to plan your music, first dance and timings whenever suits you. 3. Can you play our ceremony and drinks reception too? Many venues need music in more than one room. Check the DJ has the equipment and the time to move between them. 4. What happens if something goes wrong? Ask about backup equipment, and what happens if the DJ is ill. A professional always has a plan B. 5. Do you have public liability insurance and PAT-tested equipment? Most venues ask for both. Your DJ should send them without you having to chase. 6. Have you played at our venue before? Knowing the room, the access and the sound limits makes a real difference. 7. Can you help with the timings on the day? An experienced wedding DJ often acts as your MC - announcing the speeches, the cake cutting and the first dance. 8. What extras can you add? Dancing on Clouds, cold sparks, a Magic Mirror, illuminated letters or an audio guestbook can turn great into unforgettable. 9. How does payment work? Look for clear prices, a contract, and payment plans that suit you. 10. Can we read reviews from real couples? Recent reviews tell you more than any advert. Planning your wedding?
